About Ira Jourdain

Ira currently lives with his family in the Kingfield Neighborhood where they have been for the last 10 years. Ira is a proud father of two MPS students and an MPS graduate.

Ira is an enrolled tribal citizen of the Red Lake Band of Ojibwe from Red Lake, MN.

He has a background in Human Services working with families receiving public assistance and helping them overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. In this work, Ira has seen first hand the necessity of well funded, well run public services and the impact they can have on people’s well being.

From 2017-2024 he represented District 6 on the Minneapolis Board of Education where he championed both holistic needs of students and their education writing the policy to guarantee 30 minutes of daily recess to students for example. Ira was also a champion for teachers and MPS staff and earned their Labor endorsements each time he ran.
